Road Safety Marathon 2025

PROBLEM

According to the Police Annual Crime Report 2023, we registered 24,728 crash victims, indicating a 15% increase from 2022, which had 21,473 victims. The fatalities increased to 4,806 from 4,534 in 2022; those seriously injured increased to 16,736 from 15,227 in 2022; and minor injuries also saw an increase to 3,186 from 1,712 in 2022. On average, 12 people die daily on our roads. Motocycle riders and passengers 45%, pedestrians 37%, and vehicle occupants 15%. The terrifying bit is that the majority of the victims are male (74%) and below the age of 35, accounting for 60% of all fatalities.
